Predictive Maintenance System for Plastic Film Extrusion Lines

Identified Issue:
The Client, operating in the plastic film production sector, needed to minimize plant downtime caused by failures of electric motors and gearboxes installed on the extrusion lines.
The main objective was the implementation of a predictive maintenance system, based on continuous monitoring of mechanical vibrations, in order to detect early signs of malfunction and promptly schedule maintenance interventions.
Solutions:
Opus Automazione supported the Client in implementing a vibration monitoring system through the following activities:
Preliminary analysis and definition of acceptable vibration limits, in compliance with technical standards and component manufacturers’ documentation.
Identification of critical measurement points to accurately detect the vibration status of motors and gearboxes.
On-site measurement campaign using a portable analyzer and accelerometer probe.

Technical evaluation of the collected data to identify components subject to greater stress and potentially at risk of failure.
Training of internal staff, both on the fundamental concepts of vibration theory and on the use of the analysis tool and related software.
Thanks to the provided training, the Client is now able to independently carry out periodic measurements, interpret the collected data, and define an effective predictive maintenance plan.
